1. Bridge Mendihuaca: Mobility and Access Restored
Good news for the Caribbean coast: The connection between Magdalena and La Guajira is open again. Since late March, a new military bridge over the Mendihuaca River has been operational. This means that all hotels and destinations beyond Mendihuaca towards the east—such as Buritaca, Palomino, and the entire Guajira region – are once again easily accessible for cars and buses.
Important Note: As the bridge is single-lane, traffic is directed alternately in both directions. Please allow a small window of time in your itineraries for possible delays at the crossing.
2. Update & Reminder: Yellow Fever Vaccination Recommendation
We would like to briefly remind you about yellow fever prevention. Since 2024, we have seen a slightly higher number of cases in Colombia than average, which is why authorities are currently advising increased awareness. There is no cause for alarm, but good preparation is important.
-
Main Risk Areas: The most affected area is currently the department of Tolima (including towns like Honda or Ibagué). Caution is also advised in regions such as Putumayo, Meta, Caquetá, and the forested areas of the Caribbean coast.
-
Symptoms: Please watch your clients for signs such as fever, headache, abdominal and muscle pain, chills, nausea, or vomiting. Yellowing of the eyes or nosebleeds can also occur. If these symptoms appear after traveling to risk areas, medical attention should be sought immediately.
-
Recommendation & Proof: We recommend that travelers between the ages of 9 months and 59 years who visit the areas mentioned above receive the yellow fever vaccination at least 10 days before departure. Important: Please be sure to bring the physical international vaccination certificate (yellow booklet). This may be checked at park entrances and airports.
-
Prevention: Additionally, we continue to recommend the use of insect repellent as well as wearing light-colored, long-sleeved shirts and long pants.
